School of Social Work

A Vital Practice

The School of Social Work at Bridgewater State University is a community of students, teachers, practitioners and scholars who are encouraged and challenged to act as leaders and change-makers. Our students, alumni, staff and faculty work together to advance social justice by empowering individuals, groups, organizations and communities to engage positively in situations of crisis. Established in 1980, our Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program is the largest program of its kind in Massachusetts, while our Master of Social Work (MSW) program has enrolled approximately 200 students each year since its founding in 2003. Both programs are fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Through a combination of classroom learning, intensive field education and professional mentoring by faculty, students graduate with professional practice competencies in the knowledge, skills, values and ethics of social work.

Graduates are equipped to serve as change agents whose efforts are informed by evidence-based policy and practice, and founded on the principles of social justice. They develop and maintain professional and social relationships through our community network of students, alumni, faculty and staff, who provide opportunities for lifelong professional growth and meaningful relationships.
